Doshie Hough's Obituary
Doshie Hough was born on November 5, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to Ward and Mary Hough.As one of 16 children, she learned early the values of love, resilience, and family. In her youth,she worked as a waitress before fully dedicating herself to the most important role of her life—being a mother.She was the proud and devoted mother of eight children, two of whom passed away in infancy,Tonya and a twin son. She lovingly raised six children: Christopher Hough, Todd Legrant,Johnathan Legrant, Martha Hough, John Legrant, and Walter Byrd. In addition, she helped raiseher nephew, Walter Williamson, and served as a second mother to the children of her eldestsister, Brenda Jones, Pamela, Robert, Angela, and Michael Lewis.Doshie’s home was a sanctuary, not only for family but for neighborhood children, teens, andeven strangers, who found comfort in her unwavering love, support, and care. No one in needwas ever turned away.Her faith was the foundation of her life. Baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in 1985, she remainedsteadfast in her beliefs, teaching scripture to her children and sharing her faith with everyone sheencountered, including doctors, nurses, and neighbors. Her life was a testament to her love,compassion, humility, and service. Her smile lit up every room, and her spirit brought joy andcomfort to countless lives. She found her greatest joy in giving to others through a kind word, awarm meal, or a place to rest.Doshie is survived by her six children, and beloved siblings: Betty Adams, Hermania Brooks,Errol Hough, Shirley Hough, Glendis Taylor Ivory, and Carolyn Hough; her six children; and 15grandchildren: Tiara Lindo, Todd Legrant, Trinyse Legrant, Francisco Nunez, Jasmine Nunez,Lajuan Legrant, Dejon Legrant, Ashley Legrant, Ashia Praiseth, Aaron Hough, Andrew Hough,Johnathan L. Legrant, Everett Turner, James Byrd, Christian Legrant, and Grayson Hough. Shealso leaves behind 11 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her children, Tonya Hough and a son at birth; her grandson,Johnathan Christopher Legrant; nephews Michael and Robert Lewis Jr.; her partner, CornellTalley; the father of her children, John Lewis Legrant Sr.; and 10 of her siblings.Doshie Hough will be laid to rest on June 14, 2025, at George Washington Cemetery inMaryland, beside her beloved mother, Mary Hough.Her legacy of faith, compassion, and unconditional love lives on in the many lives she touched.She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
