Eddie Lee Perkins' Obituary
Deacon Eddie Lee Perkins was born in Delhi, Louisiana on January 11, 1938, to the late Jerome and Lillie Perkins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Emma Perkins and his brother, Jerome Perkins, Jr.
Eddie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Metropolitan Baptist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas. He remained a member there until moving to Washington, DC were he joined Bethlehem Baptist Church. He served as Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Evangelism Committee, Trustee Board and was ordained a Deacon, in August of 1982. He served in the church's Outreach Ministry by teaching Bible Study every other Fridays at the Resurrection Power & Deliverance Center of the church. He taught Bible Study at Martin Luther King Jr. Shelter for Homeless Men every Wednesday Evening.
Eddie attended Bush and Stephen Elementary school. He graduated from Horace Mann High School. He attended Philander Smith College for one year before joining the Air Force, were he served for Four
Years. After serving in Air Force he returned to Philander Smith College to complete the requirements needed to enter the University of Arkansas, School of Medical Technology and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. After moving to Washington DC, He later attended George Washington University where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Biochemistry.
Eddie worked as a Medical Technologist at Biometrics Research Laboratory, McCoy, Morales, Garcia & Lopez Medical Laboratory, Southeast Community Hospital Medical Laboratory, and Blackburn Laboratory of St Elizabeth Hospital and worked as a Health Administrator for the Drug Enforcement Administration Department of Justice until he retired in1998.
Eddie was a member of Fidelity Lodge No. 20 of the Prince Hall Masons. He has served as the head of Fidelity Lodge (Worshipful Master) for two terms, 1982 and 2004. He worked with the Order of Knight Pythagoras, a group of young men from ages 8 to 18 years old. Also he served in the Prince Hall Grand Lodge as the Assistant Director of the Order of Knights of Pythagoras.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife for 60 years Neta Perkins of the home. One sister Velma Dendy of Carson California, Sister-in-Law Kay Cobb (Linwood), Jacksonville, NC and a host of other Nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
