Franklin Delano Roosevelt Dixon's Obituary
On May 28, 2025, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Dixon – our beloved Pastor, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Educator and friend - was called from labor to reward.
Born April 21,1933, he was the 15th of 18 children born to Patrick & Cornelia Dixon.
Frank, as he was affectionately known, is survived by only one sibling, his beloved sister, Almeda Dixon Lee.
For 92 years, Frank demonstrated great loved and God and family, He passionately pursued his
goals and dreams. Never boring - he was exciting, fun, full of joy and accompanied with outstanding accomplishments. Whether fishing, riding motorcycles, preaching, or teaching, Frank made it fun. Frank attended a one-room school where his love for education bloomed. He loved the passionate pursuit of knowledge and academics. Frank continued his love of God and country by enlisting in the United States Army. Over the years, he graduated from well-respected and ranked universities, receiving a Bachelors of Science at Virginia State University, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Biblical Studies from Riverside Seminary. Importantly, he helped so many along the way that students often called him "Brother Frank."
He was also a community activist. Frank worked at the polls using his passion to inspire others to vote. In graduate school he became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated.
He also was a member of the Shriners of their motorcycle corporation. He represented the Shriners with other members in parades throughout the nation promoting social services and community involvement. Although he went on to become a well-known Principal of two schools, he ended his career as Assistant Superintendent of the District of Columbia Public Schools. Of course, Frank would never forget his humble beginnings.
On June 26,1971, Frank married his wife of 54 years, Hilda Dixon (formerly Durham). To this union, Marissa Delano Dixon was born. She was always a "Daddy's Girl." Although he wanted her to go to college, he cried when she did. Frank's love flourished when Marissa married Jaime Velez. He now welcomed a beloved son-in-law and cherished grandchildren. Frank's wife, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren miss him greatly but appreciated the time they spent together.
Frank was ordained on April 1, 1984. He served with Matthews Memorial Church in the District
of Columbia. On October 6,1991, he founded the Potomac River Baptist Church. He served as Pastor for over 34 years.
Frank leaves many to cherish his memory. We rejoice knowing he is resting with the Lord and no longer suffering.
May God Bless You Greatly!
