Geraldine Price's Obituary
Geraldine “Gerri” Price, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and
friend was born December 16, 1947, in Washington, D.C., to the late Genolia
Dixon and Henry Redmond Sr. Gerri’s journey through life was marked by
unwavering love, devotion, and a genuine care for all those around her.
Gerri was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools and
graduated from Anna Lalor Burdick Vocational High School in 1966. Her
professional career spanned over five decades, including more than 10 years
with the National Education Association. Most notably, she dedicated 45 years
of distinguished service to the United Planning Organization, retiring in 2015.
Gerri was cherished by her colleagues for her warmth, honesty and respect for
her colleagues.
Growing up in Northwest Washington, DC as the fifth of six children,
Gerri was not your typical D.C native that hung outside and partied. She
preferred the comfort of home over the city’s nightlife, and enjoyed the
occasional gathering at Fides House. She had a genuine love for people and
made sure everyone was cared for. Gerri’s favorite hobby was reading, and if
she did not have her head in a book, she was helping her mother in any way she
could. In 1962, Gerri met the love of her life Willie L. Price. They married on
November 3, 1967. Their union was blessed with six children – three sons and
three daughters – instilling in them the values of love, faith, and family.
Gerri became a baptized Jehovah’s Witness in 1970. Her course was now
set in life, all about faith and family. She was well known for her love, devotion
and passion for telling everyone about Jehovah and how he had been her saving
grace. In her words, “I want everyone to know the truth.” Gerri was happy
about completing Pioneer Service School for the 2nd time in 2025 to draw closer
to Jehovah and maintain faithful service and effectiveness in the ministry.
Gerri’s favorite scripture, Ephesians 6:2-3, was a guiding principle she would
often remind her children and grandchildren of honoring their father and mother
so their days may be long on earth.
Gerri embraced life’s simple pleasures. She loved to study God’s word,
travel, and enjoy family gatherings. She was a collector of refrigerator magnets
from her travels, and her children and grandchildren knew they would hear “bring
me back a magnet” before their trips. Her love for her children was truly
unconditional, and she expressed immense joy when her grandchildren made
visits to see her as a group… the next one was planned for this month for them
to love on her during a surprise brunch.
Gerri leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is
survived by her children Darin Price (Quanda); Marc Price (Karla); John Price
(Nina); April Jefferson; Shanon Price, Ashley Price and son-in-law Larry Jefferson,
Jr.; her grandchildren: Charmonique, LaKaya, Khalil, Malia and Na’Vayah Price;
Tobias and Mekhi Price; Danielle Strange, Dontae Backus, John, Jamar and
Kimani Price; Tyrei and Alacia Jefferson; A’niya and Aeon Price and Michael Aiden
Darbouze; and fourteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters,
Jean Tabor and Wendy Kensie (Donald); brothers Stanley Dixon and Henry
Redmond IV (Jean). Gerri was preceded in death by her siblings Barbara Metcalf,
Vernon “Chubby” Dixon and grandson, Terrific S. Price. She also leaves behind a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Gerri’s life was a testament to faith, kindness, and the enduring power of
family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and
loved her.
