Gwendolyn Sabrina Barley's Obituary
Born Gwendolyn Sabrina Barley, Gwendolyn moved to New York City with her mother, Edith Palmer, at a young age. As an only child, she was deeply loved and cherished by her family.
Growing up in the city helped shape the strong, determined, and unforgettable woman so many came to know and love.
Gwendolyn graduated from Berkeley College with her Associate’s Degree in Administration. She later met and married the love of her life, Ernest Wilder, and together they built a beautiful family, welcoming their daughter, Elicia Wilder.
She dedicated more than 30 years of service to Jacobi Medical Center, where she worked as the Assistant Coordinator Manager for the Radiology Department. Throughout her years there, she built lasting relationships with coworkers and patients alike. She took pride in her work and made sure every task was completed thoroughly and with care. Many patients appreciated not only her professionalism, but also her warm personality and unwavering dedication.
Gwendolyn was known for her beautiful smile, infectious laughter, hardworking spirit, determination, and undeniable hard headedness. She never hesitated to tell you when you were wrong, but she was also always there when you needed someone by your side. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing her would agree that she was truly one of a kind. Her presence brought comfort, honesty, laughter, and love into every room she entered.
Outside of work, she enjoyed listening to music, watching horror movies, and simply relaxing. Many will remember her sitting back comfortably with her cigarette and her 40 oz nearby, enjoying life in her own unapologetic way. Those memories, along with her love and laughter, will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Ernest Wilder; her daughter, Elicia Wilder; and her grandchildren, Atiya Wilder, Malanie Goodwin, and Zanir Goodwin.
Though she may no longer walk beside us, her spirit, strength, and love will live on forever through everyone whose lives she touched.
