Yes, Pearl was my aunt, but we had a brother and sister relationship growing up until she finished high school and moved to Washington, DC at 18 years old. she was only just over 4 years older than me. She was that aunt that would listen without interruptions' and correct you when you were wrong. I really loved her for the Love, Mentorship and how you could tell her something and it was never repeated. she didn't gossip or talk about anyone. Had that mother instinct for All of her nieces, nephews, younger brothers, cousins along with her own children, grandchildren and greats. She called me her military hero and stayed in touch with me regardless of where my duty stations were during my 21-year career, she always sent letters and birthday, Christmas cards My Aunt had the Biggest Heart than anyone that I know I don't think that she ever met a stranger, definitely was a people person. When our mom passed away in 2005, she told me and my siblings that she was stepping in and being our mom and if we needed anything don't hesitate to ask....., "We are old grown folks Pearl". That was Auntie. I have always called her Pearlie Gates; Girl you are goanna be missed and I will never forget you and thank you forever for being friend, mentor, and most of all my Aunt/Mom. Fervent Prayers and Condolences for Kim, Kris, Phil II and Gaither Family Tree.
Much Love,

She was my AUNTIE/MOM who received me into her home at the age of 13. You know the age when you think you’re grown and know everything and her sister wasn’t having that. So her and Uncle Charles welcomed me. Let me make it clear she certainly wasn’t a pushover! She was hard and gentle at the same time. She taught me simple morals and etiquette. She was personable with all she met because every weekend the place to go was Pearl’s. I had a child at an early age and she didn’t reject me and throw me in the system. No she loved her niece. She also taught me how to dance and cook. One thing a lot of children need to hear is I LOVE YOU and I’M PROUD OF YOU. She always made that known especially when I messed up. I wouldn’t let one week pass without calling to hear her voice. I could tell her anything and she kept it. I LOVE HER SO MUCH AND GONNA MISS OUR INTIMATE TIME. SHE WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART 😭😭😭
