Lucius Anthony Dixon Sr.'s Obituary
Lucius Anthony Dixon was born to James and Geneva Dixon on August 26, 1940, in Washington, DC. Lucius was welcomed into the family and provided many years of happiness and togetherness with his loved ones. He enjoyed playing with his sisters and brothers. They were inseparable and spent many nights and weekends just enjoying each other’s company.
He was a Cadet Captain at Anacostia High School while the school was being integrated. After high school, Lucius entered the United States Air Force. He served his country well for three years. Lucius fell in love with the love of his life, Ms. Jacquelyn Mapp, and they were married in 1960. The two were often seen hanging out with friends and attending great house parties with their neighbors. Lucius was nicknamed "Cool Breeze" for his cool style and his love of music. When he completed his tour of duty with the US Air Force, Lucius returned home and started working at Safeway as the Meat Manager. He held that position with distinction for over 40 years. He received many accolades and awards for running a tight ship. Customers would stop by the store and only wanted Lucius to assist them with their meat selections. He was warm and engaging and always had pleasant words for his customers. He worked long hours to provide for his wife and son. He was truly a family man.
On September 18, 1963, Lucius became Lucius, Sr., when he and Jacquelyn Mapp Dixon welcomed their one and only son, Lucius Anthony Dixon, Jr. Lucius, Jr. was the apple of his parents' eye, and brought them many years of happiness. Lucius and Jacquelyn raised their son in a loving home at 2217 U Place, SE, Washington, DC. He adored his wife and was there throughout her very difficult battle with Lupus. Lucius, Sr. lost his wife at an early age, but she remained near and dear to his heart until his death. He always said “I love my wife” and she was so beautiful.
Lucius Sr. and Lucius Jr. enjoyed playing Monday morning quarterback. They talked trash about their beloved Commanders. They knew the true mechanics of the game from players, to coaches, to plays, and to the business side. Lucius Sr was amazed that Lucius Jr. knew more about football than he did. The saying “raise up a child in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it” was so true for them. They are back together again and will be able to hear the roar of the crowd and the cheer of the fans.
Lucius, Sr. was predeceased by his parents, James and Geneva, brothers James and Joseph, sisters Dorothy and Lelia, and recently, his beloved son, Lucius Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving daughter-in-law, Toni Dixon; his very special lady friend, Tina Porter; his brother Robert Dixon; his sisters, Loretha "Rita" Dixon and Celestine Tinlsey; a host of nephews and nieces; his grandson, Cory, his granddaughter, Jacquelyn; and a host of other family and friends. Special thank you to Bernard Mullen and Joseph Dixon Sr for all they did to assist Lucius Sr in his final days. Both took him under their care and made sure he attended his doctor’s appointment and that all his needs were made. He was very appreciative for all that you did for him.
