Marvin Levine Dixon I's Obituary
Marvin Dixon, Sr. peacefully transitioned into eternal life on Friday, April 10, 2026, at SOVAH Health in Danville, Virginia.
Marvin was born on May 15, 1960, to the late Anthony T. Dixon, Sr. and Ruby Logan Dixon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony T. Dixon, Jr. At an early age, Marvin gave his life to Christ and was baptized at County Line Baptist Church in Vernon Hill, Virginia. He was educated in the Pittsylvania County School System and graduated from Gretna High School in Gretna, Virginia.
He was united in marriage to Valerie Dunn, and from this union his son, Marvin Dixon, Jr., was born. He was also a loving stepfather to three stepchildren and embraced them with love and care. Family meant something to him, even if he did not always say it out loud.
Marvin worked for many years at Dan River Mills, Inc., where he was known for his strong work ethic. After the company closed, he followed his love for driving and became a truck driver. He enjoyed being on the road, traveling, and living life on his own terms. His truck, known as “Toe Cutter,” was something he took pride in. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and farming. He was also a skilled craftsman who could build or fix just about anything. If something needed to be done, he found a way to get it done. While he was not always expressive with his words, he showed his love through his actions.
Later in life, Marvin suffered a stroke, and his health began to decline. He required daily care and remained in a nursing facility until his transition.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Valerie Dunn, a devoted son, Marvin “MJ” Dixon, Jr., his two beloved granddaughters, Kaelynn and Maelynn, his sister Brenda Robertson of Java, Virginia, his brother and sister in law Darrell and Tijuana Dixon of Clinton, Maryland, his sister Alvera and Omar Grimes of Danville, Virginia, his sister Verlene Dixon (Melvin) of Prior Lake, Minnesota, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Marvin’s presence and spirit will truly be missed. His life and the way he chose to live will always remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
