Nancy Clarissa Martin's Obituary
Nancy Clarissa Martin, a beloved mother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the age of 71, at Medstar Washington Hospital Center. Born on July 2, 1954, in Washington, D.C. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Littlejohn, her parents, Peggy Green and Henry Handcock, her beloved grandmother, Clara McKoy; and her great aunt, Marjorie Ellen Green.
She is survived by her two sons, William Martin, Curtis Johnson (daughter-in-law Ameera Johnson) and one daughter, Jennifer Littlejohn (son-in-law Bo Carney); one brother, William Martin (aka Man), one sister, Carolyn Alston, a best friend, Tamela Worthen.
A graduate of Shaw Junior School, she went on to work for the Smithsonian Institution for a short period of time. After the passing of her beloved husband, James Littlejohn, in 2016, she became a housewife.
Our beloved mother, Nancy, (aka “Cutie”) was a quiet, intelligent and a very insightful woman – graceful, beautiful and full of love, she had a kindred spirit and always had kind words for those who crossed her path. She aged well, so youthful in appearance, people often mistook her children as her siblings.
She loved God and enjoyed listening to gospel music; one of her favorite gospel singers was Mahalia Jackson. She also enjoyed listening to secular music too. A wonderful homemaker, she kept an immaculate home filled with warmth and care. She would spend countless hours on the telephone with family and friends who were in need of support and a listening ear.
Nancy will be deeply missed by her family and friends. We thank God for lending her to us, and although we will miss her beautiful smile and physical presence, she will forever remain in our hearts.
