Pamela Leach's Obituary
Pamela Sherron Short, affectionately called Pam by family and friends, was born to Gross Carrington "Glick" Short and Beatrice E. "Bea" Morgan Short on March 2, 1949 at Freedman's Hospital (now Howard University Hospital). She was born and raised in Southeast DC at the Parkchester Courts development and later a home, with her mother, brother and at times her aunt and cousins. Her faith in God was kindled at an early age when she accepted His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church in August 1958 - where she remained a life-long member.
Pam was educated in the DC Public School System. She attended Anacostia Senior High School and was a proud graduate of the Class of 1969. She went on to matriculate at Federal City College (now the University of the District of Columbia) where she received an Associate's Degree. She soon followed in her mother's footsteps to begin employment in her career.
Pam met the love of her life, Lynwood Wayne Leach, at a friend's birthday party. They settled in Southeast DC and were united in Holy Matrimony on January 2, 1982 at Bethlehem Baptist Church. From this union, a son was born, Lynwood Wayne, II. In 1996, the family relocated to Prince George's County, Maryland.
Pam served in several positions in the District of Columbia government. In the 1990's, she retired early from her decades long career at DC Public Schools. Her last post was as an Administrative Assistant for the Facilities Maintenance Division of DCPS. In 1997, she began working for Prince George's County as a Financial Secretary at Robert Goddard Middle School in Greenbelt. In 1999, she left PGCPS to join the Prince George's County Health Department - under the Perinatal Office of the Division of Maternal and Child Health. A joy of her life was to have her son as an immediate coworker during that time. After leaving the Health Department, Pam went on to become the assistant to the Deputy Director of the Prince George's County Office of Information Technology and Communications. In 2015, she retired a second time from county service, her career culminating as an Executive Assistant of the Department of Family Services.
Pam was an avid follower of fashion and a lifelong subscriber of Vogue Magazine. Since the early 1980's, she's been known for her signature red hair as well as her perfectly-manicured nails. As a fashionista, she would often buy the same item in different colors or styles. She is the former owner of a Hummer and other uniqueluxury-brand trucks and SUVs. In sports, she was a home team fan of the Washington Football franchise. Her sense of style was only outshined by her loving heart and philanthropy to International NGOs, nonprofits and religious institutions - many of which today are still anonymous and known only to her and the Creator.
Pamela departed this life on the evening of Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at her home in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. She transitioned in the comforting presence of family. Pamela was predeceased by her father, her mother, her brother Malcom "Mac" Short, her granddaughter, Tyeshia Harrington, and her husband Lynwood “Lyn”.
Those remaining to survive her memory and legacy are her son, Lynwood Wayne, II (Narissa), her stepchildren that she adored as her own: Petrina McCrimmon (Rodney) and Marcus Person, her grandchildren: Jawon (Ashley), Diamond, Justin, Alyesha, Atticus, Vincent and Marcus, Jr., ten great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren. She loved and adored all her family.
