Steward McDonald Mickens' Obituary
Steward McDonald Mickens Sr., 70, of Lanham, MD, entered eternal peace and rest on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
He was born on September 27, 1954, the eldest of four siblings, to Deacon William Archie Mickens and Rebecca F. Mickens. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church until he relocated to Richmond, VA. He received his education at Hanover County Public Schools.
Steward married Debra L. Mickens (Dixon) on April 21, 1981. Debra and Steward would affectionately call each other “Boo". Steward's world changed suddenly on Saturday, July 29, 2023, when his "boo" passed away. Steward was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan and LOVED talking junk to the Washington Redskins (Commanders) family members. Steward was always the life of the party and would keep us all entertained.
He was preceded in death by his father, Deacon William Archie Mickens.; his son, Steward M. Mickens, Jr.; one grandson, Tyrae Mickens; his wife, Debra L. Mickens; one uncle, Deacon James L. Mickens; two sisters-in-law, Gradie Pearl Miller and Glenda E. Mickens; and several other family members and friends.
Steward leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Michelle Mickens Goode (Walter), of Richmond, VA; his mother, Rebecca F. Mickens, of Ruther Glen, VA; five grandchildren: Shaniqua, Zhane, Asia, Donovan, and Yenexia.; five great grandchildren; one sister, Sandra Smith (Richard), of Ashland, VA; two brothers, William C. Mickens, Sr. of Woodbridge, VA and Ronnie L. Mickens (Sharnette) of Ruther Glen, VA; three sisters-in-law, Naomi Fitzgerald of Danville, VA., Eunice Marie Stone of Dry Fork, VA., Alma Jean Chaney (James) of Ringgold, VA.; two brothers-in-law, John Eddie Dixon (Dorothy) of Halifax, VA, and Huler Dixon, Jr. (Patricia) of Washington, DC; three uncles, Reid (Marion), Raphael (Madeline), and Charles Mickens.; and a host of nieces, nephews (one devoted-Greg Mills of Richmond, VA), relatives, and friends.
